32 Hour Challenge 2007

This Saturday and Sunday (the 6th and 7th) we are putting on our 32 Hour Challenge. If you would like to take part come to C400 at 10 am Saturday morning. If you are going to be late please contact me.

Where is C400?

C400 is above the Medical Centre on the right. Enter the main building next to the Font and the Juice Bar, go down the corridor where the SU office is, pass that until you come to a set of stairs, with the medical centre in front of you. and head up those stairs.

What is the 32 hour challenge?

The Committee present you with a script on the Saturday morning which you have to perform 32 hours later (give or take a few hours) if anyone does NOT want to perform but wants to watch then come to C400 at 7 p.m. This year's 32 will have a Murder mystery theme.

How do I sign up to the Drama Society?

When you have your NUS card, sign up online at http://activities.uhsu.co.uk/ and then take 10 pounds along with a passport sized picture to the S.U office. After the 32, no-one will be allowed to perform without a society's card. Its mainly for the insurance reasons but the more members we have officially signed up the more stuff we can put on.

Q: What is the 32 Hour Challenge?
A: The 32 Hour Challenge is as the title suggests. On Saturday morning at 10, eager members of the society are given a set of scripts. It is the first time they will have seen them. The challenge is then to turn them into working plays over the next 32 hours, ready for a public performance at 8pm on Sunday evening! There's usually a big meal on Saturday night for everyone to relax for a few hours as well.

Q: Sounds a bit mad. Why do it?
A: Well, the main idea is for the new members of the society to get a flavour of what goes on, and to meet the existing members of the society. You can see what different jobs entail so you can have a go at future productions. Its also great fun!

Q: Isn't 32 hours a long time? Do I have to be awake for all of it?
A: 32 hours may seem like a long time now, but soon goes when you're doing the challenge! No, you don't have to be awake for all of it. True, you might not get much sleep, but most people will usually try and get a few hours kip, either at the hall in a quiet corner, or popping home for a couple of hours. You don't have to stay the whole time!

Q: I'm not an actor. What else can I do?
A: As well as acting there is still plenty to do. The plays need directors, set needs building, costumes need finding or making, and there is publicity to produce. There is something to suit everyone!

Q: I can't be there for the whole 32 hours. Can I still take part?
A: Of course! Come along whenever you can manage. As well as the acting, there are plenty of other jobs to do. Even if you can only manage one hour, you can still paint a bit of set or put up some posters.

Q: Do I have to be a member of the Drama Society to take part?
A: Yes. The Students' Union requires it, because you are not insured without being a member. You can usually join throughout the weekend.

Q: Okay, okay, I'll do it! What do I do now?
A: Other than the rigorous mental and physical training regime that each of us undertakes before one of these events, not a lot. Come along to C400 for 10.00am, the provisional date is the
6th - 7th October, and join the fun!
