Social This is the time away from preparing shows, building set, learning lines and of course the need diversion from doing work... Every year the society runs various trips, activities and the like, from going out and eating in a local restaurant, paint balling and taking in the occasional film or show, to nights in the Font and Ele house
The "Wales" Trip Although something of a dying tradition of recent years, during the Easter break 40 or so foolhardy members of the UHSUDS travel to deepest South Wales, and spend four days living in converted farm outbuildings. During this time, a wide range of activities takes place, from hill walking (in the morning, when everyone is sober), to Rugby and Rounders (in the afternoon, when people are slightly tipsy) to the 'Last night Cabaret' and the now legendary 'Midnight Manoeuvres with Moisey' (in the evening when everyone is pissed as newts). But its not all drink, drink, drink. Its just a chance for everybody to relax and not worry about anything, but its mainly for people to have FUN!
The Oscars The award ceremony follows the format of its more famous namesake, with the most famous stars of stage and screen presenting solid gold Oscars to the lucky winners. Actually that's a lie. Its usually some notable UHSUDS members doing the presenting, and the Oscars aren't solid gold, but the feeling is there. Oh, and there's a bar and food and video clips from the year. Nice. In previous years has seen music composed by society members for the opening, remakes of popular cinema, and plenty of pieces of video that people really had thought had been missed. You can watch the closing video of the 2005-2006 year here. If you have any ideas as for some where to go, or want to help organise anything, then why not contact the social secretary? |
